Millwall failed to end a run of six winless games at The Den as they conceded a stoppage-time penalty to draw with Huddersfield Town in the Championship.

Brooke Norton-Cuffy finally broke the deadlock in an uneventful game early in the second half from close range after Lee Nicholls had saved his initial effort.

David Kasumu had a chance as the half wore on, but Darren Moore's Terriers struggled to establish themselves.

However, Delano Burgzorg converted from the spot in the seventh minute of stoppage time after a handball by George Saville.

The draw sees Huddersfield stay two points and one place out of the relegation zone as they failed to win for a ninth time in 10 games, while the Lions are 19th with one win in 12 matches.

Danny Ward had an early effort for Huddersfield while Kevin Nisbet forced a 17th-minute save from Nicholls in the visiting goal.

Matija Sarkic saved a Ward effort inside the final 15 minutes of a half that saw few chances on goal.

Norton-Cuffy's opener caused controversy with the visitors after he challenged Nicholls when it looked as though the Terriers' keeper had the ball in his hands.

Huddersfield were forced to take Nicholls off after the clash, and his replacement Chris Maxwell was called into action straight away as he made an excellent double save from Duncan Watmore midway through the second half.

Moore's side never gave up and were rewarded with the spot kick which earned them a valuable point as the two sides below them faced one another with QPR losing to Sheffield Wednesday.

Millwall head coach Joe Edwards told BBC Radio London:

"It was a tight, edgy game because two teams in a difficult position, difficult runs of form, and people talking about how important this result would be when two teams face each other.

"There was nothing in it in the first half, a cagey game, and that's really understandable.

"The second half we came out, we upped it, were the better team, got the goal and you could see that that gave us more belief and we were pushing for a second.

"We didn't get it and unfortunately when you're in these moments where there is an underlying edginess to what you're doing you can be susceptible to any sort of half-chance going against you.

"The manner of the goal sums it up - we gave a set-piece away unnecessarily and it falls to the edge of the box and it's a deflection on to a hand and a penalty."

Huddersfield Town manager Darren Moore told BBC Radio Leeds:

"I thought looking at the game and the balance of the play it's no more than what we deserved.

"For us to come here to Millwall, and we know how difficult The Den can be, and to keep this relatively hostile crowd down to a minimum noise - it shows the intent of the players.

"I thought right from the first minute we set about the game, but from our point of view connected at Huddersfield Town, it was about coming here and getting the right response form Tuesday night, and I thought the boys did that."
