Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has urged his team to show a more ruthless edge in away games.

Ferguson's side moved into the automatic promotion places in League One with their 1-0 win at Fleetwood.

Posh are looking to avoid a repeat of last season when they reached the play-offs before losing on penalties to Sheffield Wednesday.

"We should have been at least three (ahead) after 10, 15 minutes," he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

Ferguson added: "We started the game how I wanted, with the authority we've got... but we've just got to be ruthless, more ruthless.

"We've seen it at times when we've gone and blown teams away, but away from home, besides Blackpool, I suppose, we haven't done it.

"It's probably more important away from home, especially against a team that are not in form. We get that goal, then the second goal and it does kill the game."

Peterborough had to rely on Archie Collins' strike, three minutes before the break, to secure all three points at Fleetwood, which put them second behind Portsmouth.

But the home side could have avoided a fourth successive loss, but for some good saves by young Posh keeper Nicholas Bilokapic.

"It wasn't comfortable towards the end," admitted Ferguson.

"Big Nick's had to make one save from the winger that hit a hell of a shot, I thought it was in, and then a header.

"We were hanging on a bit at the end in a game we should have won very comfortably."

Bilokapic arrived from Huddersfield Town in the summer on a three-year contract and was making his 25th appearance for the club after just 10 senior games previously.

Ferguson added: "He's a good goalie - he's 20 and he's never played this many games.

"We took a risk but got him on a free transfer and it's an incredible signing really.

"He will make mistakes, I'm aware of that. But everyone can see the potential in the boy and I think he's done very well for us."
