Southend United are playing their third season in the National League since relegation from the EFL in 2021

Southend United are free to sign players for the first time since September 2022 after the club's transfer embargo was lifted.

The decision has been made with Southend set to be taken over by Australian businessman Justin Rees.

"The embargo has now been lifted following the significant developments that has satisfied both HMRC and the National League," said the league's general manager Mark Ives.

They are 15th in the National League.

The Shrimpers began the season with a 10-point deduction following a High Court decision to grant a final 42-day deadline to owner Ron Martin to find a buyer for the club.

With manager Kevin Maher unable to bring in players, they have had to operate with a squad of just 12 players for many games this season.

News about the embargo comes just two days after Maher himself signed a new long-term contract to commit himself to the Roots Hall club.
