Caretaker head coach Alan Sheehan has suggested Swansea City's search for a new boss could end before Saturday's FA Cup tie against Morecambe.

Sheehan steered Swansea to a morale-boosting Championship win over West Bromwich Albion on New Year's Day.

Four weeks after Michael Duff was sacked as head coach, Sheehan believes the club "are closer" to appointing his permanent successor.

"I've had conversations this week," Sheehan said.

"Like I keep saying, there is a process to go through and I understand there's obviously a lot of people interested in the job, but finding the right person [takes time].

"I suppose when you have taken 11 points out of seven games, sometimes there's not a big rush maybe, but I understand the [need for] clarity - for everybody it needs to be concluded this week I'd say."

Sheehan, who worked with Swansea sporting director Paul Watson at Luton Town, said he has received assurances that he will have a role in the Welsh club's new managerial team.

What is uncertain is what position Sheehan will hold.

Swansea are thought to have considered a host of potential managers - Chris Davies was the top target but opted to stay at Tottenham Hotspur - with Manchester United coach Eric Ramsay continuing to be touted as a contender.

The West Brom win was Sheehan's third in seven games at the helm, with the Irishman also overseeing two draws and two defeats.

Despite the managerial uncertainty, Sheehan says Swansea will be active in the transfer market this month.

"I think there will be players going out the door in January and there will be players coming in," he said.

"We understand where we need to strengthen - I think everybody sees where we need to strengthen.

"I know there are targets to make the club stronger. I think players will come in, all going well."

Sheehan is keeping fingers crossed for Liam Walsh after the midfielder came off with a calf injury just 10 minutes into the Albion victory.

"I am hoping it's tight rather than a pop," he said.
