Bristol City have signed Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Adam Murphy from St Patrick's Athletic.

The 18-year-old midfielder has agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal, with the option of a further year.

St Patrick's say City have paid an "undisclosed international training compensation fee", external for the teenager.

Murphy has made more than 30 League of Ireland appearances and helped St Patrick's Athletic win the FAI Cup final last November.

"Adam is one of the brightest young talents in Irish football and we are delighted to sign him as he had other options offered to him," Bristol City technical director Brian Tinnion told the club website.

Murphy added: "The main attraction for me of Bristol City was the pathway for a young player into the first team.

"That's what you want as a young player, to be given an opportunity and the club has proved countless times that it does that."
