Ivan Toney: Forward scores hat-trick for Brentford B as he nears return from betting ban
- Published
Ivan Toney scored a hat-trick for Brentford's B team on Saturday as the forward closes in on a return to action following an eight-month betting ban.
Toney played 75 minutes of the 5-1 victory over Southampton's Under-23s, netting twice in the first half before completing his treble in the second.
The 27-year-old's ban ends on 17 January but he is permitted to play in behind-closed-doors friendlies.
He last scored in a friendly against Italian side Como in October.
Toney, who registered 21 goals for Brentford last season, is set to make his Premier League return in the Bees' home game against Nottingham Forest on 20 January.
Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with the frontman, with Brentford manager Thomas Frank saying it will take an "unbelievable" offer to prise Toney away from the GTech Community Stadium.
