Dunfermline Athletic v Airdrieonians: 'Undersoil heating failure' forces game to be postponed
- Published
Saturday's Scottish Championship game between Dunfermline Athletic and Airdrieonians has been postponed after a "suspected undersoil heating system failure" at East End Park.
Dunfermline's pitch failed a 10:00 GMT inspection.
The club website stated that it meant "a large amount of water is currently sitting on the pitch".
Dunfermline chairman and chief executive David Cook has apologised "to any supporters inconvenienced".
He told the club website: "We are disappointed not to be able to host this afternoon's match. However, I was informed this morning by the grounds team of a suspected failure of the undersoil heating system along the south stand touchline.
"As a result a large amount of water has pooled causing significant flooding to an area of the pitch. The grounds team are working on identifying and resolving the problem as soon as possible."
Dunfermline have slipped outside the promotion play-off spots after a run of five games without a victory and currently sit sixth in the table, two places and four points behind Airdrieonians but with a game in hand.
The visitors, unbeaten in four games, were heading to Fife seeking a fourth consecutive victory.
A date for the rearranged game has yet to be announced.
