Hibs' young talent can follow Doig to big money success, says Montgomery

Hibernian head coach Nick Montgomery hopes to reap the benefits of Josh Doig's potential transfer this January - and has urged more Hibs youngsters to follow his example.
The Scotland left-back is expected to move during this month's transfer window - with Marseille and Sassuolo both heavily linked with him.
Doig moved to Italian club Hellas Verona in June 2022 for £3m - and Hibs stand to receive 27.5% of any profit the Serie A side make on him.
That could give Montgomery a significantly boosted transfer kitty this month, depending on the terms of his sale - but the Hibs boss said he is waiting to see what happens next.
He revealed that director of football Brian McDermott and head of recruitment Ian Gordon are "hopeful that it will go through".
"But I don't know if that will change a lot in this window," Montgomery said. "That's something that, if that happens, I'll probably pick the phone up to Ian and see if he can chip in a few quid in the budget.
"One of the main things that attracted me to Hibs is that it's a club that has history of developing young players and selling them for good transfer fees and re-investing that money back in - and right now we have an opportunity to do that.
"I'm not sure how it all comes in, straight away, or what the details are. But that's fantastic for the club and Josh."
Doig has moved into international reckoning following his move abroad - and Montgomery urged the next crop of young players coming through at Easter Road to take inspiration from the 21-year-old's career progression.
"When I came into the club, I said that I would give everybody a chance, I'd give the young players a chance," he said.
"Rory Whittaker is the youngest player in the club's history in 150 years. Rory has started four games for the club now and that inspires everybody in the academy.
"I'm passionate about developing young players and also recruiting young players from around the world and other teams and giving them the platform to.
"If you can do that, that's a good business model for the club. It's now my opportunity to bring some young players in and inspire them.
"We go out and look to try and bring in young players in, they see Rory, they see Josh Doig, they see the likes of Scott Brown who've been at the club, and that's the history of the club."
Meanwhile, Montgomery revealed that he had yet to decide whether to pursue his interest in Kris Moore after the centre-half returned to Leeds United, but he would not be taking further his interest in fellow trialist Adryan, the former Leeds, Sion and Brecia midfielder.
