West Brom have signed experienced forward Andreas Weimann from Bristol City on loan to the end of the season.

It is a return to the West Midlands for the 32-year-old, who played 129 games for local rivals Aston Villa at the start of his career in England.

He has made 21 appearances for the Robins this season, scoring his only goal in a Boxing Day win at Watford.

"I just want to help as much as I can and get this club to where it wants to be," Weimann told the Baggies website., external

"I'm definitely a team player, but I also think I've got goals in me. Hopefully I can bring goals, assists and experience to the team."

Midfielder Taylor Gardner-Hickman has made the opposite move, joining Bristol City in a permanent deal, having been on loan with them since August., external

Following his six years at Villa, which included two loan spells with Watford, Austria international Weimann moved on to Derby County the summer of 2015.

He returned to the West Midlands in the second half of the 2016-17 season, making 21 appearances and scoring three goals while on loan at Wolves, before moving to Ashton Gate in the following year.

Weimann, who is out of contract at Bristol City this summer, captained the Robins last season and was named their player of the year at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

He is the first signing of the January transfer window for Albion, who are fifth in the table.

"Andi has proven himself to be an excellent Championship player for many years, and we are pleased to have him with us," said head coach Carlos Corberan.

"He adds quality and experience to our attacking options and is a welcome addition to the group. He is fit and ready to play which is also important."
