Dundee have signed former Motherwell, Aberdeen and St Mirren striker Curtis Main after he left Indian Super League club Bengaluru.

The 31-year-old has joined the Scottish Premiership club on a one-and-a-half-year contract.

Dundee manager Tony Docherty revealed he had been chasing Main since being appointed in May.

"I've got a good relationship with Curtis from my time as assistant manager at Aberdeen," he said.

"I built up a strong bond with him. He has done fantastic work in the Scottish Premiership, he knows the league really well and he brings real quality in the type of striker that I feel the whole team will benefit from. Curtis is also a fantastic professional."

Main had signed a one-year deal with Bengaluru after ending his two-year spell with St Mirren last summer.

However, the Englishman only started in three of his eight appearances, scoring twice, for the side sitting ninth in the Indian Super League after 12 games - and the club announced this week they had "mutually parted ways".

Main, whose former clubs include Middlesbrough and Portsmouth in a career spanning 425 games and 69 goals, said "it is a great feeling" to be back in Scottish football.

"The manager was a big influence in my decision," he added. "I've worked with him in the past and he knows what he is going to get from me and I know what I am going to get from him."
