Colchester United have signed defender Riley Harbottle on loan from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian for the remainder of the season.

The 23-year-old joins the U's after only making two appearances for Hibs in all competitions so far this campaign.

Harbottle made the permanent move to Hibs from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee in July.

The defender is League Two Colchester's third signing this month, subject to ratification.

Harbottle has previous experience in League Two, scoring six times in 37 appearances on loan at Mansfield last season.

Colchester currently sit 22nd in the table on 25 points, six points above the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Hibs goalkeeper Max Boruc has joined Scottish Championship side Arbroath on loan for the rest of the campaign.
