Airdrieonians defeated Arbroath to move back into the Scottish Championship play-off places.

Airdrie's Aaron Lyall struck a post before Leighton McIntosh's penalty for bottom side Arbroath was saved.

The visitors hit the woodwork a second time when Dean McMaster fired off the crossbar but Callum Fordyce's header ended the impasse.

Gabriel McGill's shot doubled the Airdrie lead before Jay Bird's late free-kick reply for Arbroath.

Rhys McCabe's Airdrieonians move up to fourth, a point above Dunfermline Athletic and two points above Greenock Morton. Arbroath remain nine points adrift of Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
