Leicester City have strengthened their midfield options with the signing of Swedish youngster Emilia Pelgander on a free transfer.

The 19-year-old has agreed a three-and-a-half-year contract at the King Power Stadium and becomes manager Willie Kirk's fourth January signing.

Pelgander was most recently at KIF Orebro before her contract with the Damallsvenskan club expired.

"I'm really excited and grateful for this opportunity," she said.

Pelgander has been capped for Sweden at Under-19 and Under-23 level and said Leicester's style of play was a major part of her decision to join the East Midlands club.

"I really liked my first talks with the manager, discussing how Leicester play and the philosophy here, and I think it will be a good fit for me," she added on the club's website., external

"It's a style of football I like to play; aggressive pressure and trying to keep the ball, and I think Leicester have started a journey that I want to be on."

Leicester are 10th in the Women's Super League table having won just twice this season.
