Grimsby Town have signed midfielder Curtis Thompson from Cheltenham Town and Portsmouth defender Denver Hume on free transfers.

The Mariners have also recruited full-back Liam Smith, 27, from Cheltenham on loan until the end of the season.

Thompson, 30, who played 22 games for the Robins this season, has signed an 18-month deal.

Hume, 25, has joined until the end of the season following his release from Pompey, where he played 31 games.

Hume began his professional career at Sunderland, playing 84 games and scoring three goals for the Black Cats before moving to Portsmouth in January 2022.

Thompson began his career with Leicester City and had spells at Notts County, Lincoln City and Wycombe Wanderers, amassing 282 appearances in all.

Smith had played 15 times for Cheltenham after moving south last summer from relegated Scottish Premiership side Dundee United, where he had played more than 100 games.

The Mariners have had a busy window, with Blackpool defender Doug Tharme signed for an undisclosed fee and Hull midfielder Harry Wood and Coventry striker Jordan Obikwu arriving on loan until the end of the season.

Most recently, Kamil Conteh joined on a permanent basis from Bristol Rovers as manager David Artell looks to keep the club away from relegation trouble in the fourth tier.
