Cambridge United striker Gassan Ahadme is expected to return later this season following a foot injury.

Ahadme, 23, joined the League One side last summer on a season-long loan from Ipswich Town but suffered a stress fracture in December.

The Moroccan scored nine goals in 24 appearances this season, including five in the four games before his injury.

"There's really good news on Gassan - no surgery needed," U's boss Neil Harris told BBC Radio Cambridge.

"The bruising in the foot is healing nicely. He's still not close to being back with the group, but rather than looking at a possible end-of-season outcome, we're now looking at a six-week period from last week.

"We're hoping that Gassan will be back to full training in about five weeks' time now so there's no reason why he shouldn't be available from April onwards, maybe slightly before."

Cambridge United are currently 16th in the League One table.
