St Johnstone owner Geoff Brown is in talks with an American consortium regarding a potential sale of the club.
The Brown family have held a majority stake since 1986 and moved the club from Muirton Park to its current home of McDiarmid Park.
St Johnstone also own a large area of land surrounding the stadium, which has complicated the prospective sale.
Takeover talks are expected to continue in the coming weeks, but it is unclear if a deadline for a deal has been set.
Brown announced in December 2022 he was seeking a buyer for his controlling interest.
He has said "the net proceeds" from the sale will be put towards building a community hub for the St Johnstone community trust.
Should a deal with the US consortium go through, St Johnstone would be the third Scottish Premiership club to have American owners.
Dundee were bought by American businessman Tim Keyes in 2013, while in 2019 a controlling interest in Hibernian was purchased by the late Ron Gordon.
It's expected that another American, Bill Foley, will have his bid for a 25% stake in Hibs approved at the club's annual general meeting next week.
Championship leaders Dundee United have an American majority owner in Mark Ogren, who purchased an 85% stake in late 2018.
St Johnstone have been a fixture in the Premiership since 2009 and have won the Scottish Cup twice and League Cup once in the past 10 years.
Under Craig Levein, the Perth side are 10th in the division and visit St Mirren on Saturday.
