Ipswich Town loanee Omari Hutchinson says their desire to keep playing right to the final seconds of games will help in the Championship promotion race.

Hutchinson scored in stoppage time in the 3-1 win over Birmingham City - his third goal in the last five games.

Ipswich are third in the table, but level on points with Leeds in second.

"When we see 90 minutes, and added time, we always think we can get another goal," the 20-year-old forward told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"That's how we are as a team - until the final whistle goes, there's always a chance to score.

"We've got very technical, skilful players coming on to impact the game and create havoc for defences."

Hutchinson is on his first senior loan, having made two substitute appearances for parent club Chelsea - one in the Premier League and one in the FA Cup - in early 2023.

He said: "I've been working really hard and it's all paying off now. I'm really buzzing with the goals and helping the team.

"This is my first season in men's football. Without the coaching staff and my team-mates helping me, I probably wouldn't be doing as well as I am now.

"I'm very harsh on myself, I let stuff get to me and that's what I'm trying to work on as well, the mental side of things."

Hutchinson kept a cool head to slot the ball past keeper John Ruddy and seal the three points.

It was his sixth goal of the campaign and he has set a target of doubling that total in the 12 league games remaining this season.

"Kieffer [Moore] tells me when the ball is in the air to try and get on the second ball, because he's going to win it. That's what I did and it paid off, and I was through on goal," he said.

"I've been working on staying calm in front of goal and I went towards the keeper and slotted it."

Ipswich travel to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, the first of five matches in March - three of them away - and all against teams no higher than 12th place.
