Steve Cotterill: Forest Green Rovers boss proud after Wrexham draw

Forest Green have picked up eight points in the seven games since Steve Cotterill took over at the end of January

Forest Green Rovers manager Steve Cotterill said his players were "magnificent" despite conceding a 93rd-minute penalty to draw with Wrexham.

The League Two strugglers were set for a major scalp thanks to Emmanuel Osadebe's third-minute goal, until Paul Mullin's late spot-kick made it 1-1.

Forest Green remain in the drop zone, three points from safety, but have lost only one of their last four games.

"I thought the boys were magnificent," Cotterill said.

"I've looked back at the penalty and I keep looking back at it and I think it's harsh, I really do, and obviously at the time it comes as well it's a real kick in the teeth for the boys.

"But it's another point on the board and those odd points you pick up, they can be very important come the end of the season."

Cotterill was appointed in January after a turbulent period at Forest Green, with the task of keeping them in the Football League.

They have picked up two wins and two draws across his seven games in charge, having previously endured a 15-game winless league run.

"We need to make sure we carry on producing the performances, they're not silky, they're organised, they're disciplined, they're really honest, they're hard-working," Cotterill told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"I think that once we get that in a little bit we need to become a bit better on the ball on turnover, but the lads have been brilliant from the moment I've been here."

Forest Green's face a massive game on Saturday when they travel to Grimsby, who sit a place and three points above them - having played two games fewer.

"We haven't really got a squad that I would feel is strong enough but the boys that we've got, and the boys that we're counting on at the moment, are doing their upmost and the supporters are enjoying it as well. There's a completely different vibe," Cotterill said.
