Wrexham rose to second but missed the chance to go joint-top of League Two after a frustrating draw with Harrogate Town.

Chances were limited in the opening half at the Racecourse, with Ollie Palmer and Will Boyle going closest in the second half.

But neither side could find a winner as Phil Parkinson's men were held to a goalless draw at home in the league for the first time since November 2021.

Wrexham sit second, Harrogate are 14th.

Something clearly had to give between the sides, with Wrexham boasting the best home record in League Two while Harrogate had the second-best away form in the division.

Derrick Abu and George Thomson both had efforts for Town early on, with Boyle and Elliot Lee having the best openings for the hosts in what was a cagey affair.

The contest was finely balanced after a goalless first half, although clear cut chances remained at a premium in the early stages after half time.

Wrexham did improve though, with striker Palmer firing a low effort wide after latching on to Lee's through ball.

James Belshaw then kept out a Boyle header as the home side pushed for a late winner.

Parkinson was dealt a blow in the 73rd minute as James McClean was yellow carded for a cynical foul, meaning he is suspended for his side's matches with Tranmere Rovers and Grimsby Town.

And Wrexham failed to find a late goal as they had to settle for a share of the spoils, with Town not managing a single shot on target in north Wales.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson:

"I think we did a lot of things right, we dominated the game, but the crossing was not of the standard it needed to be to create enough chances.

"I thought the lads gave everything, there was nothing left out there tonight, but we just couldn't find that killer moment to open the game up.

"We know Harrogate have done well away from home all season, they sit in, they make it difficult. They worked hard, you've got to give them credit for that, but really it was a game that, on the balance of play, we should have won comfortably."
