Hyun-Jun Yang's booking was upgraded to a red after VAR intervention

Celtic and Kilmarnock have failed in their bids to have weekend red cards overturned.

Hyun-Jun Yang saw red for Celtic after just 16 minutes of their 2-0 loss at Hearts on Sunday.

The South Korean had initially been booked for a high boot on Alex Cochrane, before it referee Don Robertson upgraded it to red by after VAR intervened.

Celtic had contested the decision, but the Scottish FA rejected their appeal.

"Clearly we are surprised and extremely disappointed at this decision," Celtic said in a statement on their website.

Yang will now serve a two-match ban

Meanwhile Lewis Mayo will also serve a suspension after being dismissed by referee Colin Steven in Saturday's loss to Dundee.

The former Rangers defender conceded a penalty after tangling with Dundee winger Scott Tiffoney on the edge of the area, before they both fell to ground in the box.

Mayo will miss Kilmarnock's next Premiership game, but is available for the cup tie against Aberdeen this weekend.

Both clubs were also ordered to pay a £500 fee each for their failed attempts to overturn the red cards.
