Last year Oxfordshire County Council agreed a deal in principle to lease the land to the club for a new stadium

Oxford United's application for their new stadium has been validated by Cherwell District Council.

Proposals included plans for a 16,000-capacity venue, which would be the UK's first all-electric ground.

The U's confirmed the council has checked and confirmed the submission was complete, and included all relevant supporting information.

The new ground is proposed to be located at The Triangle, near Kidlington.

The five-hectare (12-acre) site is located south of Kidlington roundabout, west of Banbury Road, east of Frieze Way and opposite Oxford Parkway Station.

The project, projected to cost more than £100m, includes a 180-bed hotel, conference and event space, and a health and wellbeing centre.

Oxford United say they plan on moving away from the Kassam Stadium when the lease expires in 2026.

U's chairman Grant Ferguson said he was hopeful the club have time to make the transition without the need to play in a temporary home.

Last week, Ferguson told The Dub, the BBC's Oxford United podcast, it is "imperative" that planning permission is granted for a new stadium if the club is to move forward.
