Torquay United have won just one of their last 11 matches in National League South

Torquay United interim manager Aaron Downes says his side must learn lessons from their 3-0 home loss to Taunton Town in National League South.

First-half goals from Nathaniel Jarvis and Cameron Evans, and a second-half strike from Ross Stearn, saw Torquay lose for the first time in five games.

The Gulls remain 12th, 13 points above the relegation zone.

Torquay could face a 10-point deduction after stating their intention to appoint administrators last month.

"We were beaten by the better team," Downes told BBC Radio Devon.

"They were superior to us and that's disappointing from our point of view, because we were nowhere near the levels we know we can be at.

"There's lessons to be learnt from his, but it is important that the good work that has gone in in the three games leading up to this doesn't get forgotten about.

"If we play to the levels that we've played at in the last couple of games then it's a different game tonight.

"Credit to Taunton because they tried to stop that and we've got things that we can do to alleviate what Taunton were trying to do and we didn't execute those."
