Luke Williams celebrated Jamal Lowe's second goal against Cardiff City with players and staff

Luke Williams savoured the "incredible" feeling of victory in the south Wales derby as he hailed Swansea City's performance as the best of his reign.

Swansea claimed revenge for defeat at Cardiff City earlier in the season thanks to goals from Liam Cullen and Jamal Lowe.

For Williams, it was a timely triumph in his first derby as Swansea head coach.

"The highs of winning a game are great and the lows are awful," he said.

"To win at Wembley for promotion is something irreplaceable. This is something similar that you don't experience very often in football.

"But these types of victories - it takes you to a different level of emotion. It felt incredible."

Swansea were deserved winners, having controlled the first half and gone in front courtesy of Cullen's measured volley.

Cullen missed a chance to stretch Swansea's lead when he sent a penalty wide of the target early in the second half but, though Cardiff improved as the contest wore on, the home side sealed victory when Lowe broke away to score in the sixth minute of added time.

It was a fourth Swansea victory in 12 league games since Williams was named head coach in early January.

"I think we had the combination of intensity and aggression combined with calmness and clarity - that's something we're all striving for," Williams said.

"I think we've seen one or the other in recent performances. Today felt like the most complete performance so far."

With no game until a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on 29 March, Williams said he may allow himself to celebrate a win which eased his team's relegation concerns.

"I had some food last night and I haven't eaten since," he said.

"So far today I have had five coffees, six teas, one Pepsi Max and a full-fat Coke. So I probably need some food at some point and then if I have got enough left in the tank, I will probably have a few shandies."
