Nick Montgomery expects to stay on as Hibernian manager even if his side miss out on the Premiership's top six.

Pressure on the Englishman intensified after losing 2-1 to St Johnstone at Easter Road last weekend.

Hibs, who visit Motherwell on Saturday, are a point below sixth-placed Dundee, who visit Aberdeen and have a game in hand against Rangers on Wednesday.

"I expect to be here for the time on my contract," said Montgomery, who has won eight of his 28 league games.

"I looked at it [the job] as a big picture, looking at the future and what I wanted to do and how to rebuild. There has been a lot of that this season.

"On the emotion of the game last weekend a lot of noise came from that, but yes, I expect to be here."

Montgomery replaced Lee Johnson in September, signing a three-year deal, and has won 11, drawn 11 and lost 11 in all competitions.

"I'm in constant communication with the board," he added.

"We have had a lot of discussions about recruitment given there will be a good sized turnover in terms of players that are out of contract and players we have been looking at for the last couple of months.

"We have the [Bill Foley] investment as well, hopefully part of that comes into the budget.

"Part of that will be affected [by] where the club finishes. All the discussions will be at the end of the season because it's hard to know until that time what everything looks like.

"I came here because it's a big club, because of the expectations and the pressure. I'm enjoying my time and I'm really proud to be manager."
