AFC Wimbledon have signed former Oxford United midfielder Marcus Browne on a deal until end of the season.

Browne, 27, has been out of contract since parting company with the U's last summer.

But in a deal part-funded by a fans' group, the versatile Browne becomes Wimbledon's first signing of the January window.

Browne started out signing professional terms with West Ham in 2015 and made his debut in a Europa League clash against Astra Giurgiu in August the following year.

Two loan spells at Wigan and Oxford followed before he signed with Middlesbrough where he made 22 appearances.

A second loan spell at Oxford turned into a permanent deal in 2022 with Browne helping the club win promotion to the Championship last season.

Browne now has another in his sights as he arrives at Plough Lane with the Dons firmly in the promotion mix in fifth place in League Two.

"This team is in a great position," he told the club's website, external.

"While everything is moving forward, I feel I can bring my qualities and help propel the club even further up the table, and be in and around it at the end of the season."
