Motherwell have "had a couple of offers from a club" for Scotland Under-21 midfielder Lennon Miller that were "miles away from our valuation", chief executive Brian Caldwell has revealed.

It follows a report from Sky Sports claiming that Italian top-flight club Udinese have had an offer in the region of £2.5m for the 18-year-old rejected by the Scottish Premiership club.

Caldwell's statement came in a "January update" on Well's YouTube channel following the side's weekend Scottish Cup defeat by St Johnstone.

"We are not desperate to sell the player," he said.

"We've always said, from day one, it's got to be right for Lennon, it's got to be right for the football club and we're not going to accept any kind of offer.

"Lennon Miller is statistically, I believe, in the top seven players in the world for his age for midfield players, so he's an exceptional talent - we all know that.

"And, if and when Lennon does move, it will be for the right price for us and it will be right for Lennon Miller at the same time."

Miller, who has been a key player for Stuart Kettlewell's side for the past two seasons, is currently sidelined with an ankle fracture.

Caldwell pointed out that a string of injuries had contributed to a run of just one win in eight games, five since Miller was ruled out.

The chief executive said Kettlewell was already looking to make signings this month, but those injuries had made it even more crucial that "we can bring some new recruits in to help bolster that squad".

However, he pointed out that, despite having what he thought was the third smallest budget in Scotland's top flight, Well sit fifth and are nine points better off than last season.
