Peterborough United have terminated the contract of Swedish centre-back Oscar Wallin by mutual agreement.

The 24-year-old joined Posh from second-tier Swedish side Degerfors in the summer of 2024 on a two-year deal.

He made 45 appearances for the club, including last season's 2-0 win over Birmingham City at Wembley in the EFL Trophy final.

"It was a situation that came to us about six weeks ago, just after the Wigan game, when he felt he wanted to go back home," manager Darren Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"He wants to continue his education. All we've done is give him time to make a (final) decision, we've been very patient with him, and now he's decided that's the avenue he wants to go down.

"It's unfortunate, these things can happen. He was a really good lad to work with, low maintenance, never gave you a problem.

"He had to adapt to a totally different league, the physicality and tempo of it and eventually got into it, especially when he started partnering Sam (Hughes), a little more experience beside him.

"In the big games he did well, in the cup final he was excellent, he's had a good time over here, he's enjoyed it, but he's now come to a decision he's comfortable with, so it's clearly the right one for him."

Wallin played his final game for Peterborough in a 2-0 defeat at Wigan on 16 August.
