Hearts right-back Gerald Taylor will be missing for "a long period of time" with a knee injury, interim boss Liam Fox has revealed.

The Costa Rica international, 23, has made eight appearances since joining the Tynecastle club on loan from Saprissa in July.

He did not re-appear for the second half after starting Saturday's 2-1 defeat away to St Mirren.

"Some disappointing news," Fox, who has been placed in caretaker charge after Steven Naismith's sacking on Monday following eight straight defeats, said.

"He's got a real issue with his knee. It's a bit of a blow.

"We don't have the exact timescale, but it'll be a long period of time. We're just waiting for confirmation with the scans and stuff.

"He'll get the support that he needs."
