Viljami Sinisalo has become Celtic's first summer signing after the goalkeeper joined for an undisclosed fee from Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old Finland international, who has signed a five-year contract, played 50 games on loan to Exeter City last season and previously spent time in Scotland at Ayr United.

He told the Celtic website "it feels amazing" as he joined the squad for their pre-season tour to the United States.

"I know Celtic is a huge football club and it’s really exciting to be part of something so big," he said.

Sinisalo featured against Scotland at Hampden in the 2-2 draw before Euro 2024.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is also expected to be reunited with 37-year-old former Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel later this week as Celtic look to replace the retired Joe Hart.

"He is a keeper with real qualities and someone we have been aware of and monitored for some time," Rodgers said of Sinisalo.

"Clearly, we have been looking to develop our goalkeeping team and we are really pleased to have secured one of the talented keepers we really wanted."
