Sheehan to take Swansea training as uncertainty goes on

Alan Sheehan says he has been asked to take training next week as uncertainty over Swansea City's managerial position continues.

Caretaker boss Sheehan is due to hold talks with director of football Richard Montague early next week to discuss whether he will be given the job on a long-term basis.

Swansea, who confirmed on Friday that chairman Andy Coleman will step down at the end of the season, have been assessing managerial options at home and abroad since the departure of Luke Williams almost a month ago.

Sheehan claimed two wins and a draw from Swansea's first three games after Williams' exit, but his side were beaten at home by Burnley on Saturday having lost at Watford in midweek.

As a result, 16th-placed Swansea are only six points clear of the Championship relegation zone with eight games remaining this season.

They were eight points above the bottom three in 17th when Williams departed following a run of seven defeats in nine league matches.

Sheehan says he will hold "conversations with the football club about how they want to move forward" with Swansea next in action at Leeds United in a fortnight.

"I've been asked to take a meeting this week and take training on Tuesday and Wednesday," the Irishman said.

"There's a good few lads away in the international break. These are difficult periods in terms of getting everyone together on the training pitch.

"I think everyone's back on Wednesday, Thursday before Leeds, so that's when you have the full group together."

Sheehan says he has "no idea" whether the situation with Coleman will have an impact on his own future.

"I think the conversation is with Richard this week to see where we are," Sheehan added.

"But I don't want us to come away from how much of a positive period this has actually been, from where we were to where we are.

"Sometimes we get bogged down by the performance against a [Burnley] team that's going to probably be in the top two. It has been a positive period in terms of points, and in terms of what was asked and what we got.

"I think we've got more than what was expected, and I think we've got to be positive about that really."
