Colchester United goalkeeper Matt Macey was part of an FA Cup-winning Arsenal squad but says the day at Wembley "is not top of my achievements."

Macey, 31, was on the bench when Mikel Arteta's Gunners side won the famous trophy against Chelsea in 2020.

But he has not been sharing tales of cup glory with his team-mates before they play fellow League Two side MK Dons in the first round this weekend.

He told BBC Essex: "I haven't mentioned it, to be honest. It's a really nice thing to have but in terms of my career it is not top of my achievements.

"It was an amazing moment and it's nice to be on my CV but I didn't play any minutes in the competition, it was Covid, there was nobody there.

"It's nice to have but I don't shout from the rooftops. My medal is somewhere but I don't actually know where it is."

Macey spent seven years with Arsenal, playing just twice, in cup competitions, before moving on.

He feels the cup run of 2020 was a surreal experience, playing during lockdown.

He said: "My memories of that period are feeling lucky that we were able to train and play and give people some happiness in a tough year. We didn't get to celebrate with the fans, which would have been incredible.

"I have barely won a game playing in the FA Cup - let's put that right this weekend.

"We haven't played MK Dons yet this season so it feels something new and we are glad to be at home."
