Bristol City left-back Cameron Pring is expected to be out for "around six weeks" after suffering a "complex lower leg laceration" during their 1-1 draw with Cardiff City, the club said.
Pring was stretchered off in the 18th minute of the match after going down having cleared a Bluebirds cross.
A Robins statement said the 26-year-old's injury required surgery.
Pring has played in all nine of Bristol City's league games this season so far, with the club's next match away to Middlesbrough on 19 October.
