Kettering end contract of jailed forward Loza

Non-league Kettering Town have released forward Jamar Loza after he was jailed for possessing laughing gas with intent to supply.

The 31-year-old Jamaica international was jailed for 28 months at Norwich Crown Court earlier this week, external after pleading guilty to two charges dating back to 2022.

Loza, who began his career at Norwich City, played one game in the Premier League for the Canaries, against Arsenal in May 2014, when he was a 58th-minute substitute in a 2-0 defeat at Carrow Road.

He joined Southern League Premier Central club Kettering in March.

"With the news this week that Jamar Loza has been sentenced for an incident which took place prior to his association with Kettering Town, we can confirm that the club has taken steps to terminate his playing contract with the Poppies," said a club statement., external

"During his time with us, Jamar made a positive contribution on the pitch and we are grateful for his performances in the club's colours.

"While we take no satisfaction in this outcome from a football perspective, as a club, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of conduct and integrity."

Loza made his final appearance for Kettering as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat at Alvechurch last Saturday.

He scored two league goals for The Poppies this season.
