Ramsey calls for 'quick' Cardiff manager appointment
New boss must 'galvanise' Cardiff - Ramsey
- Published
Interim manager Aaron Ramsey has urged Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan to "quickly" appoint a new manager to give fans "clarity" after the club's relegation to League One.
Ramsey says the new boss needs to be someone who can "grab and galvanise" the club, so that supporters can "buy in" to the future of the Welsh side.
The 34-year-old, who has taken charge of City's last two matches after Omer Riza's departure, has played down his own chances of taking the job and has openly stated that his short-term plans are to return to playing and recovering from a hamstring injury.
"Over the next few weeks, after the season finishes, it's important to get somebody in with the right staff around them, that's the first thing and then you can go from there and add layers to that," Ramsey said.
"Fans need clarity. Players need clarity and then you can build from there really.
"We need everybody to get right behind this club now and for us all to pull in the same direction for us to get out of this and you need somebody who's going to grab the club and galvanise that.
"What's important now is that the manager, and the staff that he brings in, create an identity that the fans can buy into again and can get right behind. That's the first step and putting that in place, the rest can follow.
"It needs to be done relatively quickly really so there's clarity. Players coming and going need to understand the situation because the longer you leave it, you're eating into your pre-season time and your time working together as a team and that has a knock-on effect into the season as well.
"My door is always open and if they want it, of course I will give my feedback.
"But the main thing is everybody coming together and wanting the best for this football club."

Tan 'does care'
Ramsey says Tan hasn't been present at Cardiff games as much as fans would like but insists the Malaysian billionaire "does care" about the club.
The Cardiff City Supporters Trust issued a statement criticising Tan's "minimal and infrequent" attendance at matches.
But Tan issued his own statement in response, stating that he watches all matches - something backed up by Ramsey.
"From the conversations that I had, it's evident that he does care," added the Wales international.
"What we can all agree with is that this season has not been good enough. Things need to be put in place in order to bounce back from this.
"I've had a few conversations with him throughout the few years that I've been here and they've all been pretty much similar.
"He's not been around probably as much as the fans would want, but from the conversations that I've had with him, I know he's invested in the club and watches the games and wants the best for this club.
"It's just trying to relate that and get it all put into action because you haven't got someone here day to day being amongst the place.
"Somebody has to try and link it all that together and put the things in place that this club needs."
