Cambridge United have signed midfielder Ben Stevenson on a deal to the end of the season following his release by Portsmouth.

The 27-year-old joined Pompey in the summer of 2023 but only made 12 appearances for the club, with two of them this season.

He has not played first-team football since being sent on as a late substitute in Portsmouth's goalless draw with Luton Town on 17 August.

"I have been training really hard and keeping ready for an opportunity like this," Stevenson told the club's website., external

"I was definitely keen to get it done and did as much as I could from my end to make it happen."

He began his career at Coventry City and later had spells at Wolves, Colchester United and Forest Green Rovers, who he helped win the League Two title in 2022.

U's boss Garry Monk said: "He ticks all the boxes for what we are looking for in a midfielder and will add great strength and versatility to the squad."

Stevenson is Cambridge's fourth signing of the transfer window following goalkeeper Marko Marosi and on-loan forwards Dom Ballard and Esapa Osong.
