Reigning Gillingham players' player of the year Ethan Coleman has agreed a new contract until 2027 with the League Two leaders.

Coleman, 24, joined the Gills from Leyton Orient in January 2023 for an undisclosed fee and started in 46 of their 49 league and FA Cup matches last season.

The former Brackley Town and King's Lynn Town midfielder made his first appearance of the new campaign in Gillingham's home defeat by Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday following his recovery from an ankle injury.

"I have enjoyed my time so far," Coleman told Gillingham's website, external.

"The club is on the right path on and off the pitch and I am very happy here.

"I felt it was the right thing to do for my career at this point. I feel good - it's the right fit at the right time."

New manager Mark Bonner has guided his side a point clear after four games this season, with the Gills taking 10 points from 12 while conceding only once.

Coleman could make his first league appearance of the season when they visit fifth-placed Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.
