MK Dons are awaiting the results of a scan on forward Rushian Hepburn-Murphy after he missed Saturday's win over Gillingham.
The 27-year-old summer signing from Crawley Town suffered a hip problem in training on Friday.
"In training, he turned and then just sat on the floor and said his hip hurt," head coach Paul Warne said.
"He's still in pain so he's having a scan and I can't see him being back for three, four weeks - at best," the ex-Rotherham and Derby boss told BBC Three Counties Radio.
"It's a blow because Rush has been really good (for us), we'll just have to see what it is.
"Normally, the next day you feel a little bit better, day after not bad, and then you think 'this is quite good'. He's still in a bit of pain and experience tells me there's a problem."
There was a further setback for Warne in the pre-match warm-up when Scott Hogan had to pull out of the game, which ended in a 3-2 victory.
MK Dons are away to Reading in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday evening, before Saturday's league trip to Bristol Rovers.
