Club record fees, high player turnovers and underwhelmed fan bases - but who won the Scottish Premiership transfer window?

Finding an answer to that is tough.

One, because many of the players brought to this league of ours are unknown quantities. And two, we have not had enough time to determine their impacts.

That said, some supporters will undoubtedly be happier than others. Here, BBC Scotland looks at the reasons why.

Judging the mood at Glasgow's big two

Celtic fans being satisfied with their club's transfer business feels like a rare thing. That is probably because it is.

Supporters of the Parkhead side have become increasingly irate with the club's hierarchy throughout the summer for a lack of business they deem acceptable.

That only intensified on deadline day as Celtic had not announced any additional new signings by the time the window had closed at 23:00 BST.

Tunisia winger Sebastian Tounekti, signed from Hammarby, was eventually announced after reports throughout the day suggested the club had failed to land multiple forward targets.

Brendan Rodgers' attack has looked somewhat undercooked this season. They failed to score across both legs of their Champions League play-off defeat to Kairat Almaty and were blunt in Sunday's goalless Old Firm draw.

Nicolas Kuhn left in a big-money move earlier this summer, striker Kyogo Furuhashi was sold last winter and fellow forward Jota suffered a long-term injury at the end of last term.

Summer recruit Shin Yamada has not really been fancied and Callum Osmand has been signed as a prospect, while the additions of winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha and left-back Marcelo Saracchi came after Rodgers' men lost in Almaty.

Although Benjamin Nygren has looked a shrewd addition and Kieran Tierney brings undoubted quality, deadline-day signing Tounekti will have to hit the ground running to shift the mood among the Celtic fanbase.

There has also been plenty of head-scratching across the city at rivals Rangers, where there has been a huge turnover of players in Russell Martin's first window.

There were high hopes within the Ibrox support when a takeover was completed in May, but to say fans have been underwhelmed with what has followed would be an understatement.

Amid the club's worst start to a league season since 1983, supporters have struggled to take to Martin and his new-look side.

Exciting winger Djeidi Gassama has been the standout, but a lot of goals have left the team following the sales of Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane.

Martin will hope the arrival of Bojan Miovski and the deadline-day signing of Youssef Chermiti will help fill the void, but Rangers fans need a lot of convincing.

Happy campers in Edinburgh?

The same cannot be said for the Premiership's Edinburgh clubs, who both showed serious ambition by smashing their transfer records this summer.

Brazilian midfielder Ageu joined Hearts from Santa Clara in Portugal, while Hibernian brought in striker Thibault Klidje from Swiss side Luzern.

The pair are yet to make their marks, but both have shown exciting glimpses of what they are capable of.

Among 10 new Hearts recruits, Claudio Braga has been the shining star in a summer that saw the club really kick their Jamestown era into life.

Winger Alexandros Kyziridis has also shown promise, while defender Stuart Findlay has added experience to Derek McInnes' backline.

Hibs surprised a few with the statement signings of midfield duo Josh Mulligan and Jamie McGrath from Dundee and Aberdeen respectively, and Miguel Chaiwa has looked excellent in recent games.

Despite missing out on striker Lyndon Dykes on deadline day, Scotland team-mate Grant Hanley adds serious competition to a strong defence.

If a club has to be declared winners of the transfer window, it should probably be a shootout between the Edinburgh pair.

Do Nisbet & Karlsson rescue Aberdeen's window?

Scotland striker Kevin Nisbet has returned to Aberdeen on a permanent deal

Despite a glorious Scottish Cup triumph in May, Aberdeen's start to the season has been plagued by the poor form that has been following them since November last year.

Nicolas Milanovic aside, Dons fans have been pretty unconvinced by the club's summer window at this early stage of the campaign.

Goals have been a massive issue, with Jimmy Thelin's side failing to score in each of their three straight Premiership defeats.

But with Kevin Nisbet, who scored 14 times for Aberdeen on loan last term, returning permanently from Millwall on deadline day, Thelin will hope the Scotland striker is the answer to his side's attacking issues.

In addition to that, the late, late loan addition of Bologna winger Jesper Karlsson, who has 14 caps for Sweden and worked with Thelin at Elfsborg, will surely excite Dons fans.

Meanwhile, Dundee United and Motherwell's transfer windows have been influenced by shopping abroad, and both sides seem to be benefitting from some wise recruitment.

Forward duo Zac Sapsford and Ivan Dolcek in particular look like excellent additions for Jim Goodwin's United, while Elijah Just and Lukas Fadinger have starred in Jens Berthel Askou's free-flowing Fir Park side.

What do the fans think?

Dave: As a Rangers fan I'm happy to see the new signings and willing to give them full support and time to settle in and start producing results. Good to see defence being strengthened and at last some pace up front. Good blend of youth and experience.

Donald: Disappointed Dons fan. Nisbet is a fine addition, make no mistake. But it's clear from Sunday's match alone - Falkirk at Pittodrie - the Dons need more quality in midfield and defence! Thelin has splurged on forwards this transfer window, but we still leak goals and still can't break down well-organised defences.

John: Hibs are great to watch going forward but still a bombscare in defence. Wouldn't be such a drama but the back line has been weak for some seasons. Dykes would've been a good signing no doubt, but it's not the forward line that needs bolstering in my opinion.

Anthony: Absolute shambles of a deadline day for Dundee - also some questionable signings in the window too. After a poor and lame derby performance we were crying out for more additions but now we are stuck with what we have until January - not inspiring at all. Relegation fears most definitely.
