Queen's Park manager Callum Davidson believes the best is still to come from his side this season as they prepare to take on Championship leaders Falkirk at Hampden Park.
Falkirk suffered a rare defeat last weekend as they lost 1-0 to fellow title-chasers Livingston.
Queen's Park are also looking to bounce back in the live Friday night match on the BBC after they lost 3-2 at Ayr United.
Despite that defeat the Spiders are fifth in the table and harbour their own promotion dreams. However, they sit 10 points behind Falkirk.
Davidson believes players returning from injury and youngsters keen to make a breakthrough will make for greater competition within the squad.
"There is a lot more," he said. "I think we are stuck in second or third gear just now.
"We were quite poor for the first 60 minutes on Saturday. There is definitely more to come from these players."
Meanwhile, Falkirk are looking to respond to their second league loss of the season.
Manager John McGlynn felt his side did not compete as well as the Lions in the first half.
But the Bairns boss took the longer view with his side still top of the table, three points ahead of Livingston.
"We would have taken this," he said. "We have lost two games in 52 league games. Tasting defeat is still the same every time but we look to get back on track."
Victory at Hampden would extend Falkirk's advantage at the top to six points.
And win is exactly what they did against Queen's Park when the sides got the Championship season under way in front of the Sportscene cameras back in August, that one finishing 2-1 to the Bairns.
Davidson is expecting another entertaining game.
"Both teams want to play football," he added. "The surface is very good, obviously it's a privilege to play at Hampden.
"It's a big one. It's a good test to see where we are. Hopefully we turn up and put on a good show in front of the cameras."
