Boston United chairman David Newton has confirmed the club have begun negotiating a new contract with manager Graham Coughlan.

Coughlan was appointed as The Pilgrims boss last November with the club second bottom in the National League and guided the club to safety in their penultimate fixture of the season, labelling the achievement "a miracle".

In June, it was reported that Hartlepool United's approach to speak to Coughlan regarding their vacant managerial position had been rejected by Boston, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the upcoming season.

"We got a derisory bid from Hartlepool, but we want Graham with us, and that was over within a flash really - that was put to bed fairly quickly," Newton told BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

"We're looking at it at the moment. Whether we'll come to an agreement I don't know, but we are talking about [a new deal]. Ideally he stays with us, but he has managed at a higher level, so he may want to keep his options open."
