Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has revealed Callum Lang will now be out for up to eight to 12 weeks after undergoing hamstring surgery.
Mousinho was initially hopeful that the 26-year-old forward would miss between four and eight weeks after coming off injured against Norwich City.
But that was before Portsmouth sought a second opinion on Lang's injury which advised him to have surgery and has extended his time on the sidelines.
Lang posted a picture of himself on social media on Tuesday following the operation with the caption "surgery done. Let's get to work. See ya soon."

Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent the club had a "couple of options" over how to treat Lang's injury.
"Number one was to just leave it as it was and go down the rehab route, which would have been four to eight weeks," he said.
"It left us slightly more exposed to re-injury, so one of the recommendations from the surgeon was that we did undergo the procedure.
"It means the risk of re-injury is significantly less but it's just going to be slightly longer in terms of the rehab size, we're probably now looking at more like eight to 12 weeks.
"It's just one of those things that much better to have it fixed properly than not."
Lang missed around two months of last season with a hamstring problem but Mousinho said this latest problem as "a separate issue".
"It's not a reoccurrence of the same injury", he said.
"The recommendation was that we go ahead and do this [operation] and I thought it was a sensible choice for Callum."
