Chesterfield midfielder John Fleck was conscious when he was taken to hospital after having a fit during the warm-up before their match with Doncaster Rovers on Thursday, assistant boss Danny Webb said.
The treatment given to the 33-year-old former Scotland international at SMH Stadium meant the League Two game's kick-off was delayed by 10 minutes.
Fleck previously collapsed off the ball during a game for Sheffield United against Reading in November 2021 but was able to return to playing four weeks later.
"He had a fit of some sort and it didn't look very nice," Webb told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"Last we saw of him he was on a stretcher and leaving [for hospital]. He was conscious and speaking with a smile on his face."
Webb added: "There was a period during that moment when John was on the floor during the warm up that football goes out of your mind.
"The dressing room was a very quiet place before kick off and as a staff we tried to lift the boys and let them know John seemed to be ok but they were flat because he is a team-mate and they care about him."
The Spireites went on to beat promotion-chasing Doncaster 5-2.
Fleck, who started his career with Rangers, joined the Derbyshire side as a free agent in September after leaving Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season.
