Chesterfield have signed left-back Jack Sparkes on loan from League One side Peterborough United until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old helped Portsmouth to promotion to the Championship last season before joining Posh in the summer.

He has made 21 league appearances for Peterborough this season including most recently during their 2-2 draw with Burton Albion on New Year's Day.

"I think the manager can bring a lot to my game and help me improve," he said., external

"We want to get promoted, that's the reason I've come here."

Sparkes' move from Peterborough comes after they signed Tayo Edun from Charlton Athletic.

"I had a chat with Jack a couple of weeks ago and it was an honest conversation. Sometimes signings don't work out as well as you would hope," Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson said., external

"We wanted to go in a different direction in that position, which is why we brought in Tayo who I thought performed very well on Saturday."
