Ben Sheaf says Wrexham's ambition is "pretty clear" after he made his debut for the Red Dragons against Queens Park Rangers.

The 27-year-old moved to the Stok Cae Ras from Championship rivals Coventry City on transfer deadline day for a reported £6.5m fee.

And fresh from coming off the bench in his side's 3-1 loss to the Rs, Sheaf admitted he was keen for a new challenge away from Frank Lampard's Sky Blues.

"It was a big decision, but I was looking for a change and a new adventure," he said.

"When this came up it was one I wanted to grasp with both hands. I'm excited to be here. There's a lot of potential in this club and the ambition is there.

"It's just about putting the work in on the training pitch and hopefully it comes out on matchdays and we can put a run together and climb the league."

Parkinson: 'QPR were more clinical'

Wrexham's defensive struggles once again proved costly as Phil Parkinson's side slumped to defeat against QPR.

Sheaf was introduced off the bench for his debut shortly after the hour mark and impressed as the hosts looked for a route back into the contest - with Parkinson saying he thought the midfielder was "great" during his time on the pitch.

The summer recruit feels Wrexham - currently one place above the Championship's relegation zone after five games - can climb up the table if they can tighten up at the back.

"It's a disappointing result but personally nice for me to get out there in front of our home fans and get some minutes," he added.

"I think when you concede the type of goals we conceded, it's hard to come away with a win.

"Saying that, I still feel we created more than enough chances to get three points. I think once we got the first goal, you saw them drop off a little bit and we were definitely in the ascendancy, but the third goal killed us a bit.

"We've created some really good chances and if we tidy up and do some of the basics a bit better, I think we'll definitely pick up some results.

"We're still getting to know each other as players. Sometimes creating chances is the hardest thing, but we didn't lack that today."

Co-owner Ryan Reynolds was in attendance for the fixture with QPR in north Wales, and Sheaf hopes to repay the faith shown in him by the club and its Hollywood owners.

"He [Reynolds] sent me a message once I signed and I met him today which was nice," explained Sheaf.

"The ambition from the owners is pretty clear and it's good to know that the backing is there.

"It's down to us now to put it in on the pitch."
