Elliot Powell led Jersey Bulls to promotion in his first season in charge

Jersey Bulls manager Elliot Powell says his side were over-confident ahead of their 2-1 loss at Sheppey United.

The defeat to the mid-table Kent side was Bulls' first in the league since promotion to Isthmian League South East.

It left the islanders 15th in the table before a trip to second-placed Three Bridges on Tuesday and a game at fourth-placed Whyteleafe next Saturday.

"I think confidence was too high with some of those lads, and myself included, we all thought we've got a tough run of fixtures and this one we need to come and win," Powell told BBC Radio Jersey.

"You don't just get given games at this level and I think that's a hard lesson for us to learn.

"It's not good enough from us and we've got two tough games now."

Bull have only played seven league games this season due to cup commitments, with a number of their rivals having played 10 and 11 matches.

"We wanted six points out of these three games and now we've got to go and win two against Three Bridges and Whyteleafe, so we're going to have to do it the hard way," Powell added.

"Confidence will be dented obviously after that, but by the same token it's one game.

"Those off days, they have been few and far between, we need to make sure that we bounce back."
