New Reading captain Lewis Wing has said that he and his side are "more than ready" for the start of the new League One season.

The Royals get their campaign under way on Saturday when they travel away to face Lincoln.

Boss Noel Hunt named Wing as the new club captain earlier this week, taking over from previous skipper Andy Yiadom.

"I can't wait to represent this football club and lead by example," Wing told BBC Radio Berkshire.

"I'll be setting the standard day in day out, we're more than ready for the weekend, we're just fine tuning the last bits now and we'll be ready for three o'clock on Saturday.

"We need a couple of extra bodies in but we're in a good place, we've knuckled down so far and I think we have more than enough in this squad to succeed this season."

If Wing plays on Saturday then it will be his 100th appearance for the Royals since he signed in the summer of 2023.

During his time at the Select Car Leasing Stadium he has scored 22 goals and registered 21 assists.

He played 50 times across all competitions last season as Reading finished seventh in League One, three points off Leyton Orient in the play-offs above them.

This season, the Royals midfielder is hoping the club can go one step further.

"If a club of this size didn't want to get into the play-offs then that would be worrying," he said.

"But us as players, the staff and fans have to get excited and get ready because we believe that we can get into these play-offs."

After facing Lincoln on Saturday, Reading will play a home game against Huddersfield Town before facing Championship side Portsmouth in the EFL Cup at Fratton Park.
