Walsall midfielder Brandon Comley says the League Two leaders' failure to make the most of their goalscoring opportunities in their last couple of games is something they need to "make right very quickly".

The Saddlers had 24 shots, with 11 on target, against Barrow and 14 shots, with six on target, in Saturday's game at Cheltenham.

Both matches ended in defeat, with the weekend's disappointment against the Robins coming courtesy of an injury-time own goal off Aden Flint following a close-range scramble.

"We feel we should've got more from the game," Comley told BBC Radio WM.

"It's a game of 90-plus minutes and unfortunately we didn't stay focused or active for those extra minutes and we got punished.

"We had chances we didn't tackle and that's on us. We need to learn quickly from that.

"I feel it was the same against Barrow and we need to change those things and make them right very quickly."

Despite the frustration, Comley says it is a good thing that the Sadlers are creating so many opportunities in front of goal

"I think there's a positive and a negative to it," he added.

"It's positive that we're getting those chances but we just have to wait for it to click we need that to turn around quickly.

"But it would always be worse if we were losing and not getting those chances. We have to miss the goalies."

Walsall are next in action on Tuesday as they take on Chelsea's under-21 side in the Vertu Trophy and Comley said they are glad to have another match so quickly after the weekend's disappointment.

"It's a great opportunity to bounce back and it's a competition we want to do well in," he said.

"It's a new challenge - they're fresh, young boys who want to impress and you have to bring your A-game whoever you play because anyone can turn you over."
