Man Utd's January transfer riddle
- Published
There has been a lot of talk around Manchester United and the January transfer window but other than Joe Hugill being recalled from Wigan, not much action.
You suspect it will not stay that way.
It was already established United needed to sell players before they could buy. It is also well known that homegrown players are a greater benefit in Profit and Sustainability terms because they create more headroom for spending.
Head coach Ruben Amorim used his pre-Arsenal media conference to underline "we know" the club's financial position.
Amorim knows - as we all do - that he has a squad of players that do not really fit his 3-4-3 system. While he might have said he has not specifically stated publicly that he wants new players, it is safe to assume he does.
So, the big question is, can United create to space needed by offloading the likes of Casemiro, Antony and Marcus Rashford this month - or do they have to sell someone there is interest in like Kobbie Mainoo?
They were in a similar position in the summer, which is how Scott McTominay ended up at Napoli.
Nothing has happened at United so far this month. But it will.
