Shrewsbury Town have signed midfielder Tommy McDermott on a season-long loan from Premier League club Burnley.

Port Vale academy graduate McDermott made just seven appearances for the Valiants and four matches off the bench while on loan at Rochdale before joining Burnley at the start of last season.

The 20-year-old is the Shrews' eighth signing of the summer and is in contention for the League Two side's trip to Grimsby in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

"Tommy is a talented young player who gives us something different in the middle of the park," director of football Micky Moore told the club website.

"There has been a lot of interest in him this summer so I'd like to thank Burnley for trusting us with his development.

"We look forward to seeing him grow over the season."

Following relegation from League One last season, Shrewsbury have picked up one point from their opening two games and were beaten 4-0 at Tranmere on Saturday.
