Middlesbrough winger Sammy Silvera has joined fellow Championship side Portsmouth on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old Australia international scored six goals in 42 appearances for Michael Carrick's Boro side last season.

Pompey won the League One title to secure promotion back to the Championship for the first time since 2012.

Silvera has five international caps and has played for Western Sydney Wanderers, Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle Jets in Australia, as well as Portuguese clubs Pacos de Ferraira, Casa Pia and Sanjoanense.

He joined Boro last summer and made 37 league appearances as the Teesside club finished eighth in the league, four points off the play-offs.

"We've brought in a powerful and direct winger with Championship experience, who can play on both sides of the pitch and is technically very strong," Portsmouth boss John Mousinho told the club's website., external

"He's an exciting player and is capable of making things happen in the final third to get the crowd on their feet."

Portsmouth begin their Championship campaign against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday, 10 August.
